Parkinson’s therapy and support services
Bradford Parkinson’s Neurological Rehabilitation Team
Speech and language therapy
This service is available if you have problems with changes to your speech or swallowing.
How can patients access this? Following your clinical assessment, the Consultant or Parkinson’s Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) can make a referral.
Occupational therapy (OT)
Neuro-OT can help maintain independence with your activities of daily living and if deemed necessary, provide equipment. For equipment only, Adult Social Care OT can provide this.
How can patients access this? Following your clinical assessment, the Consultant or Parkinson’s Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) can make a referral.
Physiotherapy
Neuro-Physio will assess posture, gait, balance, strength and mobility, helping to maintain fitness and independence.

Dieticians
Dietitians advise on and promote healthy diet for general health, wellbeing and energy.
How can patients access this? Following your clinical assessment, the Consultant or Parkinson’s Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) can make a referral.
Physical, emotional and psychological support
Bradford District and Craven Mind offers support around the mental health and wellbeing of people across the Bradford District.
Anyone who is feeling isolated can receive face-to-face support each week for up to 1 hour with a trained volunteer.
How can patients access this?
- People can be referred by a healthcare professional or self-refer via Bradford District and Craven Mind – Befriending Networks
- A free and confidential NHS service for people aged 16 and over who are registered with a GP in the Bradford District: Bradford and Craven Talking Therapies.
- If you wish to be referred to Marie Curie Outpatient groups, please contact your Parkinson’s Nurse or Doctor to discuss.

Activities and exercise
There are several organised walks for People with Parkinson’s:
- Haworth Walk – every Monday (except bank holidays) at 11.00a.m.– meet at West Lane Baptist Church, BD22 8EN
- Horton Bank Top Walk – every Monday at 10.00a.am – meet at the opposite side of the road to Horton Bank Top Surgery, BD7 4PL
- Peel Park Ladies Walk – every Wednesday at 11:45a.m
- Bradford Moor Park – every Thursday at 12:00p.m. noon – meet at the main entrance of Killinghall Rd, BD3 7JD
There are lots of different activities available at Kirkgate Centre and Northcliffe Church.
There is also the “Hi-Lo” Neurological Choir on Tuesdays at Buttershaw Baptist Church: Footprints Family Centre – Caring for the Buttershaw community.

- HEARTBEAT is a Registered Charity, run by volunteers, based in Brighouse which provides exercise / Tai Chi classes and walks for people who have had or are at risk of having a cardiac event

- Bradford Belles brings older women together with weekly sessions exploring dance, comedy, theatre, character development and arts
