Parkinson’s therapy and support services
Speech and language therapy
- The speech and language therapy (SLT) service provides specialist assessment and therapy to adults throughout Doncaster who have communication or swallowing difficulties because of a neurological condition.
- If you are aged 18 or over and have difficulties with communication or swallowing, you can request a referral to speech and language therapy via your GP or another named professional involved in your care.
Occupational therapy
Our team conducts home visits to assess needs, set treatment goals, implement rehabilitation programs, and offer advice while supporting care packages.
We provide support in the following areas:
- retraining of skills, activities of daily living (ADL), and personal activities of daily living (PADL)
- various assessments including cognitive, environmental, and functional assessments
- assistance with re-housing support documentation, referrals for housing adaptations to social services, and equipment assessments to enhance independence and safety
- support for functional and cognitive difficulties, environmental controls, and assistive technology
- execution of rehabilitation programs, guidance on end-of-life issues, advice on return-to-work matters, and comprehensive functional assessments
- upper limb splinting, fatigue management, and collaborative working
This service doesn’t accept self-referrals. Referrals are made by healthcare professionals on behalf of individuals seeking assistance.
Physiotherapy
Neuro physiotherapy offers advanced and specialised assessment and treatments designed to assist patients facing various challenges. We offer support with:
- reduced balance reactions
- mobilisation difficulties
- falls
- pain
- general exercise and fitness levels
- provision of walking aids

Dieticians
Our dietetic service consists of dietitians and dietetic assistants. Dietitians are qualified and regulated health professionals that interpret of the science of nutrition to improve health and treat diseases and conditions.
Dietitians assess, diagnose, and treat nutritional problems by educating and giving practical, personalised advice to patients, carers, and colleagues.

Physical, emotional and psychological support
The neuropsychology service offers clinical neuropsychology and clinical psychology support to patients accessing neurorehabilitation.
The service is available for patients over 16 years old registered with a Doncaster GP. It is suitable for those with a confirmed or in-progress diagnosis involving a neurologist’s input.
Referrals to the service are made by appropriate professionals on behalf of the patient. The referring agency must specify the reason for referral, and the patient or caregiver should be informed and willing to engage in rehabilitation.

Healthcare Team
Free point of access for six sessions. Befriending aims to reduce social isolation & loneliness. You will have a designated Befriender to meet with once a week for 6 weeks. A chance to have a chat, tea / coffee, share stories and help to access the local community if appropriate.Practical support is also offered.
