Parkinson’s therapy and support services
Speech and language therapy
- Speech and language therapy can provide exercises for improving speech volume. They can also assess people who have problems with swallowing and provide a recommendation of specific food and fluid textures that may reduce the risk of choking.
- Patients can be referred for Speech and language therapy by their Parkinson’s specialist nurse or consultant.
Occupational therapy
- Occupational therapists can provide assessment and provision of adaptable equipment you may need to help with your activities of daily living, cognitive assessment, anxiety management, support with sleep hygiene and fatigue management.
- Patients can be referred for occupational therapy by their Parkinson’s specialist nurse or consultant.
Physiotherapy
- Patients can be referred for physiotherapy by their Parkinson’s specialist nurse or consultant.

Dieticians
- Dieticians can help review your weight and diet and provide ways to improve protein and energy consumption.
- Patients can be referred for a dietician review by their Parkinson’s specialist nurse or consultant.

Advice and support groups
We have a very active Parkinson’s UK Huddersfield group, who meet regularly:
- Main meeting – Third Thursday of the month from 15.00-16.30 at Longley Park Golf Club, Maple St, Aspley, Huddersfield, HD5 9AX
Please attend, no need to contact beforehand.
