Other local information

Specialist Consultants

  • Our service is provided by Consultant Geriatricians with many years of specialist expertise in the diagnosis and care of Parkinson’s disease in people aged 50 and over. There are Consultant clinics every week, supported by nursing staff who also have many years’ experience caring for people with Parkinson’s, allowing for more frequent routine reviews than currently recommended by national guidelines. Our Consultants are able to access up-to-date brain imaging and other necessary investigations if you need these.

Parkinson’s Disease Nurse Specialist

  • Our Parkinson’s Disease Nurse Specialist works full time to support all patients in the clinic, seeing them in their own clinics, or if they have been admitted as inpatients to our hospitals (The Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Broadgreen Hospital) and if necessary at home. They also provide a daily (Mon– Fri 09.00–17.00) telephone helpline for any advice, concerns or worries about your Parkinson’s or its treatment between visits. As a Nurse Prescriber, they can also advise on and make any changes to your Parkinson’s medications if this is necessary between visits.

Rapid Access Clinics

  • We can provide short-notice appointments before your next visit for Parkinson’s-related emergencies if your next visit is some time away and the Parkinson’s nurse has not been able to help you over the phone.

Advanced Therapies

  • The clinic can provide and deliver non-oral medications such as subcutaneous ones for patients who need it; we can also refer directly to the nearby regional Neurology centre (The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery) for those who may be suitable for invasive therapies.

Mental Health Support

  • Each visit to clinic involves an assessment of both your Parkinson’s disease as well as your general brain health. If you are having problems with your mood or memory, we have excellent links with local Mental Health services with whom we work closely and we can refer you to them if you need this.
